The thing is I have something to write about. And that is: food.
Don't laugh, please, I know food takes up most of my blog space but this is different. So I was reading one of yours posts and came across one that really put me in thinking. Throwing away brand new food because a second ago this person decided to fast. I tried to comment about it but then thought, annamaria this isn't your business.
So I'm making this post at my blog, to make it my business.
Seriously? Throwing away brand new food?? You have to get it together. We all have. I know you have the right to decide what to eat and what not to eat, we all have and we all here are making pretty strong decisions about eating BUT it's not your right to throw away food, while people next door may be starving beyond their will. Your body is your body, and if you earn your money you can decide where you want to spend it, but please think before throwing away food.
PEOPLE ACTUALLY DIE trying to survive, not trying to look perfect. And this doesn't only happen in a land far-far away, at the so called Third World Countries, this may be happening just around your corner. Think BEFORE you shop, not when your fridge is full of crap. By then it's a little late to freak out.
Thank you :)
p.s. All comments are welcome
I have to agree--even if someone don't want it, there's probably a food pantry or homeless shelter nearby that does. A few years ago, my mom and I had to survive off of what we got from a food pantry, and I am forever grateful to the people who donated food there.
ReplyDeleteI agree philosophically to come extent, but in reality it's not really an option for people to donate food.
ReplyDeleteThey don't have enough of it to make a difference, it's perishable, they don't know where to donate at, they don't know that people are in need, or it doesnt serve the same psychological function as throwing away food (if someone is dealing with an eating disorder).
I like your blog because it's more than just about food. I like how you stand up for what you believe. (the whole love doesn't exist thing is interesting and your trip to NY too.) And I agree. It's just plain wrong to throw away brand new food. Anyway go you for standing up for what you believe. :)
ReplyDeleteI admit that I have thrown away food, but that's because my brain at the time told me to do so because of my eating disorder. It may be easy to say that throwing away food is wrong and I get your point but at the time the compulsion was so strong that I didn't know what else to do and it was really hard for me at that moment when I believed that if I didn't do it, something bad would happen to me. I believe it's not as cut and dried as that to me. Now that I am well I can't imagine doing that but then I was really unwell. Just my opinion.

Hooray! I'm not the only one bothered by the thought of throwing away uneated food! For people who need an idea for getting rid of unwanted food, but can't donate, here is my moto: Give it away when ever possible. If I have some food that is tempting me I ask my brother or someone if they want it. Just this weekend my sister ate my slushy I got on impluse. I didn't have to eat it or throw it away. wahlaa!
ReplyDeleteI COMPLETELY AGREE with you!!
ReplyDeleteI think it is really bad when people throw away brand new food, seriously I just can't say I would ever do that.
My family works hard to put food in my fridge and I know how much effort they go into making it so it horrifies me when people can't appreciate food and just dispose of it so easily.
