Anyway, I have another issue to talk about today. Broccoli.
I am much of a vegetable lover, but me and broccoli have a lot other relationship. I love it, it loves me.. So as a matter of a new start this weekend, I chose that this would be my main source of nutrition. It's only 26cals per 100gram anyway.
Lunch time came soon before I got the chance to go to the supermarket (lol) so I didn't have lemon and salt, what I need to enjoy broccoli even more. I opened the bag but had a little time on the nutrition box before -I always do. Next to it there was a recipe. I thought that could be interesting, so I read it.
I was shocked. Like, a lot! How could anyone do this to my one and only love? (yes, being single for a long time, I transfer my affection to any other shiny object).
So this was more or less what the recipe was about: you take the lovely, non fattening broccoli and you add (idk how many servings that would be, but it sure scared me) 6 eggs, 1 litre milk, 2 big spoons of butter, a cup of macaroni cheese, salt&pepper. And that was for a pack of 750gr of broccoli.
So what in other words this recipe was telling me was
"here's a great idea, instead of 26 cals why don't you get 26 billion?"
thanks, I'll pass.. so I just filled a fruit plate with boiled broccoli, added some oil for taste (I miss you, lemon) and watched three episodes of The Hills.
Really WHO WILL MAKE THIS, broccoli's pack people??
well not the ones who actually want to have legs like these..
like me :)
I love broccoli too!! and broccolini- I agree lemon and s&p are great! I also love it dipped in no fat hummus, and it's really good with crushed almonds (If you can have the cals) oh and with paprika! I love broccoli with ginger soy chilli dipping sauce too!
ReplyDeleteOk i have to stop myself I'm getting too hungry. damn fasting. Enjoy it for me? xxx
& that recipe is shocking!!! I would never do that. I sprinkle nutritional yeast on it occasionally if i want something cheesy though- much less cals.
Haha, great post! I love brocolli, but cauliflower is my first love!!

I hate seeing what some people will to do vegetables to make them "tasty". I love my broccoli blanched and that's all I need. :)
ReplyDeleteHmmm... I was sure broccoli was 34kcal for 100g, every calorie counting website I have checked says that.
ReplyDeleteBut the recipe was HILARIOUS. It's also hilarious that some people would call that recipe "healthy" do to the addition of broccoli. Broccoli doesn't need to be nutritionally destroyed to be tasty. (:
oh, sorry I didn't check ever calorie counting website about broccoli, this was what it was written at the back of the pack, in the nutrition box..
ReplyDelete:)
Thanks, hun!!
ReplyDeleteomg, i don't understand why some people try to "cover" the taste of broccoli...
i like them raw so much!
Good luck dear :P
xox
some people are just crazy! broccoli and cauliflower do not need cheese sauce or anything of the like, it will only make it taste worse. it reminds me of people who put honey on carrots YUK!
ReplyDeleteEwww, that is disgusting ! I would never never do that ! I love broccoli, why kill it like that !
ReplyDeleteI'm a sucker for the long green beans, I could eat it all day long.
ReplyDeleteand I heart the 'we heart it' website, haha okay that was bordering on lame.
